“List 10 popular things about which you could not care less.”

1) TV

I don’t watch TV. I just don’t. It’s not some sort of snobbish thing, like I think TV shows are beneath me. I simply got out of the habit several years ago and never found the time to pick it back up again. By the time I was done with the things that took me away from TV, I realized I didn’t recognize any shows that were left and I didn’t know how to resume. Add that to the fact that I’m much more into reading, plus the fact that the number of interesting books in the world is infinite, and you’ve got a sure equation for the TV-challenged.

Besides, Netflix.

The only reason why I have cable is because it comes with my internet. I wish I could go without.

2) Football

Sports in general, but football is a big one because I can’t go a single day without hearing something about it. It’s especially worse now that the Super Bowl is coming up (I think?). Nothing against football, nothing against those who like it. I just could never get into it, myself.

3) Twilight

I’ll differentiate myself from the haters right now - I don’t think Twilight is the worst series ever written. I don’t understand the hatred for it. In fact, in a certain light I can somewhat see the appeal for it. The writing is comparable to fan fiction, I think. Standard fan fiction with a few moments that shine, but otherwise nothing special. The “nothing special” part is what has me shrugging at the popularity. Enjoy. Simply not for me.

4) Fashion

This one is less about caring and more about plain not understanding. I don’t understand fashion. I don’t know who makes the rules about what’s “in” and “out.” I don’t understand what makes something look good or not. From my perspective, it’s a tiring thing. You buy all these clothes that are good for - what? - a few months? And then somebody decides they are bad clothes, so you have to buy new ones. I don’t understand.

Maybe I would like fashion if I understood it a little better.

5) The newest “It” gadget

The key word here is “newest.” I’m always late to the party. It’s not that I’m unswayed by cool stuff, it’s that I don’t care when it first comes out. I’m always the one discovering the cool stuff after it has been out for a few years. I didn’t get my first iPhone until midyear last year.

6) Music

Similar to the above. I don’t hate music. I’m just really behind all the time when it comes to the good stuff. I don’t listen to the radio so I don’t know the popular stuff until it has already been played to death by the social population.

And I don’t really care that much.

7) Celebrities

I’ll be honest - I don’t recognize most of the people on the cover of People magazine. I’m lucky if the name sounds familiar.

8) Religion

Religion, spirituality, or a belief in a god or gods is quite popular, if you believe the polls. It was never a part of my life. There’s nothing else to really add to that.

9) Movies

This one is cheating just a little bit because it isn’t totally “couldn’t care less.” I could care less. I could care much less. I enjoy movies. However, I don’t watch all that many. I don’t know what’s in theaters. I struggle to list favorites. I haven’t seen the ones considered classics (working on it, though).

10) Partying/Clubbing

I’ve never understood the appeal of going to a dark, loud, crowded place to dance. I’m not a party kind of girl. Too many people is sensory overload. Dancing confuses me. If the concept of clubbing disappeared right now, my life would be absolutely no different.
